About Cindee Starkie Photography

Hi! That is me and I love photography. It all started when I got my very first camera at age 8. It was pink. I loved it. Since then I have come a long way- including selling off all my darkroom equipment and finally getting into the lightroom. After a small hiatus with photography to focus on other things, I am back and ready to go!

Olympus High School Senior Portraits. Salt Lake City Photographer

August 25th, 2010

It’s that time of year again for high school senior portraits. The fall is one of my favorite times to do portraits because of the color and lighting outside. I had so much fun with this cute girl! The ones in the grass are my favorite, although I also really love the mountain background in a couple below. One of my favorite senior portrait sessions!

The Other Side of the Lens/Sandy Utah Portrait Photographer

August 24th, 2010

Last weekend hubby, toddler and me ventured out for our own family portrait session. What a treat to be on the other side of the lens! I have to say, it was STRESSFUL!!! I gained a new appreciation for all my clients. Starting with just getting ready! I had my hair professionally straightened, and thought I gave myself plenty of time to do it, get dressed and leave. Needless to say, we were late getting out the door, then had to deal with traffic and a hot sweaty car!  I lifted my hair over the back of my seat to try and keep it from getting sweaty- and therefore curly. Ughhh.

Once we started the session, we were putting the finishing touches on our little boy and the photographer started snapping away. I admit, I got a little self conscious at the sound of the shutter. “I wasn’t ready!” I thought and then chided myself- I snap away candids all the time at my clients without thinking anything of it. Karma- now I know!

My husband provided valuable insight to the experience as well. He made the comment that he was concentrating so hard on smiling he started to feel like a goof. That was funny to me because after about the 5th shot, I wasn’t even thinking about looking good anymore, I was concentrating on making a moment. That helped relax me in more ways than I could have imagined.

We walked around and scouted out places for our perfect cameos and the kitten heels were starting to get to me. “I miss being on the other side!” I’d think.  By the end of the evening my feet were rubbed raw.  I still have blisters. Was it worth it? Yes, for sure!

So here are my recommendations from my new found perspective:

  1. Relax- no matter how much time you give yourself to get ready you’re still going to feel rushed getting out the door. Take deep breaths and relax! Family portraits are not a cause for divorce!
  2. Concentrate on the moment- if you hear me clicking away behind the camera for candids, don’t get self conscious. Concentrate on being in the moment. I promise, you’re going to love your photos!
  3. Bring comfy shoes for walking around in!
  4. Relax, Relax, Relax. Can’t emphasize it enough! Just Relax!

Now that it’s over the fun begins! I’m already planning out my wall gallery for our living room. So excited about it I can hardly stand it!

Unique Portraits & Products- Salt Lake City Photographers

August 10th, 2010

Introducing my newest products! These make great gifts from photos from my sessions for the upcoming holiday season. Here is a new twist on storyboards- one of my favorite photography products. While the larger standard 10×20 storyboard with multiple photos is still a favorite, sometimes we want to showcase just one image. Here are my new options for any size storyboard- these can be printed and mounted on styrene with scratch-resistent coating for easy displaying on a table top, or can be framed. It can also be printed on canvas as well! There are limitless options!

Here are my favorite- samples from the Whimsical Collection:

And a more dramatic Frame collection in the Whimsy line:

For a more subtle, elegant finish I’d recommend the Finishing Touches Collection:

Another unique product includes the Collage collections. Again these can be any size up to 30 x40 and mounted as a print or a canvas:

Last but not least in the Collage collection is the Mr. Big Collage print. Customizable to photos from your session and background colors. Looks best as a canvas wall hanging. Sizes 24×36 and larger.professional photographer Unique Portraits & Products Salt Lake City PhotographersCOOL huh? I’m way excited to begin offering these products. Puppies Are the Best! Salt Lake City Photographers

August 9th, 2010

Nothing is like a puppy! Probably my favorite pictures next to all the little kids I’ve been able to shoot- puppies have the same type of enthusiasm and cheerful playfulness. Plus, how can you resist something small, soft, and furry? Yay! I love being a photographer!

3 Brothers- Salt Lake City Children’s Photographers

August 4th, 2010

What better way to take children’s portraits then let them hang out in a tree? These boys loved to climb their grandmother’s tree and I’m pleased with the portraits we got out of them. They were some of the most fun I’ve had photographing- definitely great modern portraits.

O is 3!/Wheeler Farm Utah Children’s Portraits

July 25th, 2010

O turned 3 this month and to celebrate we met at Wheeler farm to take her pictures. I loved this little cutie! She had so many cute expressions! blog11 O is 3!/Wheeler Farm Utah Childrens Portraits

We walked around the farm for a little and there were so many geese and birds. Being the “brainiac” that I am I decided to tell O to go chase the birds- only to find out after from her Grandma that one of the geese once followed her pecking at her ankles once a few years back. Note to self- don’t do that again!
